Description

The Government of Belarus has pursued a path towards a green economy since 2004. It developed the document “National Strategy for Sustainable Socio-economic Development 2030” focusing on sustainable development, introduction of a green economy, sustainable consumption and production. The National Action Plan for the Green Economy, adopted in December 2016, aims to enhance development of the organic agriculture sector; promote and regulate energy-efficient construction and development of renewable energy; promote “green” government expenditures by revising the public procurement law; stimulate ecotourism; and promote public participation and education for sustainable development.

EU4Environment is helping Belarus facilitate national policy dialogues on green economy, finalise the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) laws, carry out educational courses, implement Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) in SMEs activities, identify Single Market for Green Products (SMPG) opportunities and benefits, develop policies for green economy, contribute to eco-innovation, strengthen green regulations for enterprises and compliance assurance, assess and reinforce administrative capacity and develop Green Growth Indicators (GGIs).
