EU4Environment at a Virtual Café under “Youth for Environment” in Moldova on environmental challenges and opportunities of the EaP Region

The online Eastern Partnership Youth Conference “Youth for Environment” took place on 24-26 September 2020.

The main purpose of this event was to inform young people about methods, strategies and tools to cultivate environmental behaviour and knowledge, advancing environmental education and activism among peers in the Eastern Partnership.

EU4Environment National Co-ordinator from the Republic of Moldova, Mr. Andrei Isac, participated in a Virtual Café related to Environmental challenges and opportunities of the EaP Region. In his intervention, he addressed a few introductory remarks on EU4Environment objectives, key facts, results and main activities. Mr. Isac expressed concern about major environmental problems and challenges in the EaP countries such as water resources protection, air pollution, waste management, biodiversity degradation and raised the issue of weak management at institutional level to solve these problems. Though he set an example of Moldova that started developing national strategies to address these challenges. At the regional level the development and implementation of green economy programmes, sustainable public procurement, greening SMEs, eco-labelling, green investments, smart policies and regulations will help countries pursue a path towards a green economy.

The conference brought together about 130 participants, including young people from the EaP countries, EU members and Russia.
