Industrial Waste Mapping

Waste management refers to the activities required to manage waste from its generation to its final disposal. This includes the collection, transport, treatment and disposal of waste, together with the monitoring and regulation of the waste management process and waste-related laws, technologies, and economic mechanisms. To this approach, the introduction of circular economy principles brings a new management model that focuses on the prevention and responsible manufacture, reuse, repair, and recycling of waste to close resource loops in the value chain (thus, opening more opportunities for new industries, jobs, the reduction of emissions and the increase of efficient use of resources).

An efficient and circular waste management system creates an increased business value, contributing to the sustainability of manufacturing industries and the promotion of economic opportunities. The overall objective of waste mapping is then to identify, assess, and map waste streams generated by manufacturing enterprises in order to develop options for resource efficiency and circular practices for waste management in the studied regions.
