Meeting of the EU4Environment Green Economy National Implementation Committee in the Republic of Moldova

The Meeting of the Inter-ministerial Working Group on the Promotion of Green and Circular Economy in the Republic of Moldova took place on 12 September 2023.

Meeting objectives were to:

  • Review implementation of the EU4Environment in Moldova in 2023;
  • Discuss imminent EU4Environment activities in Moldova by the end of 2023;
  • Present national developments and synergies with other on-going projects related to Green Economy promotion in Moldova, to ensure follow-up/sustainability of EU4Environment activities/achievements.

Participants

The meeting gathered Ministers/State secretaries (EU4Environment NFPs/Co-chairs from MEDD and MoEnv), Members of the NIC/WG on GCE, representatives of governmental agencies, business sector and environmental NGOs, as well as EU4Environment Implementing Partners (OECD, UNEP, UNECE, UNIDO and the WB).

Background

Meetings of Moldova’s Inter-ministerial Working Group (WG) on the promotion of Sustainable Development and Green Economy (also acting as the National Implementation Committee (NIC) for the EU-funded EU4Environment programme) aim to review progress in greening the national economy and to discuss the activities of all relevant stakeholders to accelerate this process in Moldova.

The WG will implement and promote provisions of the National Development Strategy “European Moldova 2030”, the European Green Deal, and the Moldova-EU Association Agreement 2021-2027. It also serves to promote decarbonization of the economy, green technologies and investments, and to ensure the sustainability of strategies and programs in the field. This includes coordination of the implementation of Moldova’s Green and Circular Economy objectives from the Environmental Strategy 2023-2030, and of the Program on the promotion of green and circular economy in Moldova for 2024-2028 (developed with EU4Environment support).The WG is also responsible for the coordination and facilitation of implementation of regional projects such as the EU funded EU4Environment “Green Economy” programme, the OECD’s “GREEN Action Programme”, as well as provisions of the Batumi Green Economy Initiative (BIG-E) and the Nicosia Ministerial Declaration (2022).
