The 1st panel of experts on “Visions and pathways for Circular Economy in Ukraine” was held on 7 December 2023. The panel was organized as part of the “Exploratory strategic foresight for Circular Economy in Ukraine” activity under EU4Environment, and with funding from the European Union and the German Government.
The event brought together 20 selected national experts in an online format to discuss the scenarios, visions, and pathways for the future development of Circular Economy in the country. Its overarching goal was to explore the future potential of CE in Ukraine, and to develop proposals for future action. This activity was conducted in close collaboration with the “Circular Economy – Promotion of sustainable production and consumption patterns in Ukraine” project funded by the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine. The event took place online, in both English and Ukrainian (with simultaneous interpretation).
The interactive discussions focused on the:
- Overview of the results obtained from the scoping report, scenario report and the survey
- Future-proofing the selected KPVCs (Key Product Value Chains) using a scenario-based approach
- Exploration of the key visions, transformations, pathways, and enablers for the selected KPVCs
- Review of the implications for the whole CE agenda in Ukraine
The first exploratory strategic foresight exercise was launched on 11 October. Since then, UNIDO, with the support of the RECP Centre in Ukraine, and alongside a cohort of international experts, has been studying the prospects for implementing Circular Economy in the country and developing proposals for a Foresight Roadmap. During the 1st interactive consultation workshop, representatives of the Government of Ukraine, and national and international experts gathered to discuss the scope of the foresight exercise and outlined the issues, challenges, and opportunities for the future development of Circular Economy in the country. This was followed by a call for expression of interest for Ukrainian professionals to participate in the survey and other activities of the strategic foresight, completed in November 2023. Additionally, Ukrainian businesses are invited to share their success stories on Circular Economy.
