EU4Environment hosts the National Conference on Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP)
The National Conference on Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) for industrial enterprises in Georgia will take place on 08 February 2022, between 11.00 AM – 03.00 PM (GMT +4). The event will be hosted in English, with simultaneous interpretation in Georgian.
The purpose of the conference is to showcase and promote the resilience of Georgian industries in their green transition by using the Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) methodology. This will also give Georgian Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) an opportunity to discover additional tools and programmes that support them in becoming more environmentally friendly.

The event is hosted within the EU Industry Days 2022, Europe’s flagship annual event, highlighting industrial frontrunners and ongoing industrial policy discussions whilst improving the knowledge base of European industry. The 2022 edition will take place in hybrid format in Brussels between 8 – 11 February 2022, and it will stimulate discussions across industrial ecosystems on their green and digital transition (including SMEs). The EU Industry Weeks is a wider framing of the EU Industry Days, bringing the discussion to the local communities. Local events are taking place across the EU and the Eastern Partner (EaP) region until the end of February 2022. Virtual workshops, fairs, seminars, open door sessions and business presentations will demonstrate how European industrial ecosystems are approaching the topics of green and digital transition, resilience, and youth in industry.
About
The main topic of the National Conference is RECP – an umbrella term used for the application of preventive environmental strategies to processes, products, and services to increase the efficiency of the industrial sector and reduce risks to humans and environment. The RECP methodology was developed with UNIDO support to help enterprises identify, assess, and decrease their resource consumption while eliminating losses, increasing resilience, and strengthening productivity and competitiveness. The implementation of the RECP methodology is performed under the European Union-funded regional programme, “EU4Environment” Action. Other relevant focus areas within this conference will be industrial waste mapping (IWM), and Circular Economy (CE).
As interactive elements, there will be thematic presentations on the RECP training and assessment programme, an open session for knowledge sharing and learning on how to support the greening of SMEs, existing financial opportunities for the implementation of green industrial projects, and an award ceremony for the newly recognized RECP Experts and Demonstrations Companies in Georgia. The newly trained RECP experts and enterprises will also present the results from assessing the manufacturing enterprises against the RECP methodology.
The RECP trainees and members of the selected Georgian enterprises include young women and men (engineers, academics, environmental managers, NGOs workers) eager to demonstrate their acquired skills and expertise on RECP. Additionally, students from Georgia’s technical universities who demonstrated a strong interest in resource efficiency and Circular Economy by presenting their research at the EU Sustainable Energy Week will be invited to the conference.
