Part of the support to the six countries is the organization of a series (of three) regional capacity-building online workshops on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), which aims to contribute to a better understanding of the existing situation in the management of the packaging waste in the six countries and to unveil the most critical challenges in promoting the effective application of EPR. In this regard and following a successful 1st Regional Workshop on the 4th of June 2021, UNEP, with the support of its implementing partner Extended Producer Responsibility Alliance (EXPRA), is organizing the 2nd Regional Capacity Building Online Workshop on EPR in the Eastern Partnership countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Republic of Moldova, and Ukraine).
The 2nd Regional Workshop will take place on Wednesday, 28 July 2021, at 9:30 CEST / 10:30 EEST via the Zoom platform.
The 2nd Regional Workshop will facilitate regional dialogue and information sharing and particularly focus on regional challenges and critical issues, mainly the EPR implementation, legislation, operation and competition at the EPR level, using a detailed example of performance in a post-soviet country in the EU.
The objectives of the regional workshop are:
- to present and discuss the findings of the Report on the Current Status of the EPR Schemes for the Packaging Waste in EaP countries;
- present and discuss the learnings from the EU, such as legislation and the practical evolution of EPR; and
- present and discuss the EPR operational issues, competition among PROs and actions from the industry.
