EU4Environment with Ukraine

The European Union, together with the International Partners, have been working with Ukraine for several years on building effective and efficient environmental policies and institutions, on integrating environmental concerns into economic development of the country and promoting green and low carbon investment through the past cooperation programme EaP Green and on-going Action EU4Environment.

Since the Maidan Revolution in 2014, Ukraine has made significant progress in many areas, establishing ambitious targets, reforming governance system and legislation as well as engaging sectoral Ministries, business sector and citizens. An important benchmark in this process was the signature of the European Union – Ukraine Association Agreement on 21 March 2014.

Today, however, this progress is being under attack and hopes for modernising Ukraine are being shattered. The large-scale invasion by Russia against Ukraine has led to further loss of human life on both sides, and thousands of people being displaced. There have been several instances of environmental infrastructure being destroyed and the environment being seriously polluted by the impacts of heavy shelling.

There is still hope that the conflict can be stopped and we will work with the democratically elected government and our Ukrainian friends.

In the meantime, we would ask you to consider providing financial support to humanitarian organisations that help people affected by the war:
