Meeting objectives
This event aims to strengthen local stakeholders’ understanding of the importance of preserving the Emerald site «Bessarabian Colchicum» both for supporting biological diversity and sustainable development of the community, especially in the context of climate change, as well as to identify actions that local authorities and stakeholders should and can take to ensure the conservation and management of the site, and to prepare and implement management plan for it.
Participants
The meeting will gather representatives from the Odesa Regional State Administration, local authorities and self-government bodies (village heads), the State Environmental Inspectorate, the Municipal Police, the Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the media, the agricultural sector – landowners and land users, farmers, land managers, hunters, and teachers.
Background
The workshop is dedicated to an in-depth explanation to stakeholders of the Emerald site «Bessarabian Colchicum» of the conservation values of this area and the importance of their preservation for the sustainable development of the local community, threats affecting the state of flora and fauna species and habitats and the Emerald sites, assessment of the conservation status of species and habitats, and discussion of proposed conservation goals to ensure the preservation and restoration of species and habitats.
