Training Session on Promoting the Effective Implementation of Sustainable Public Procurement in Georgia

The training session on Promoting the Effective Implementation of Sustainable Public Procurement took place on 30 May 2022.

The training was organized in a hybrid format virtually and at the Conference room of the Environmental Information and Education Center of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia (6 Marshal Gelovani Ave, 0159, Tbilisi, Georgia).

Objectives of the training were to:

  • raise awareness of the Georgian business associations, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) on SPP approach;
  • introduce benefits of SPP to Georgian business associations, SMEs (including producers, distributors, suppliers etc.);
  • present SPP criteria, elaborated for selected products (such as imaging equipment, printers, plotters, cleaning products);
  • present examples of SPP practices in the EU countries;
  • discuss with the SMEs’ representatives on the key challenges and possibilities to respond to the public tenders with inclusive sustainability criteria.

Participants

The representatives of the Georgian business associations, including from the European Business Association Georgia (EBA), Infrastructure Construction Companies Association/ICCA, Georgian Manufacturers Association, Georgian Employers Association, Office of the Business Ombudsman of Georgia were invited to the workshop. The representatives of SMEs were invited through these business associations.

Background

EU4Environment supports Georgia to strengthen its capacity to implement Sustainable Public Procurement (SPP) and increase use of eco-label through the technical assistance and capacity development/training for policy makers, procurement practitioners, businesses and industry associations, as well as non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders.
