The EU4Environment programme plays a central role in supporting the expansion and effective implementation of the Emerald Network across the Eastern Partnership (EaP) countries by strengthening policy frameworks, institutional capacities, and regional cooperation. Through technical assistance and knowledge sharing, the programme helps countries align their national biodiversity policies with European and international standards, including EU nature legislation.
Beyond policy and legislation, EU4Environment also focuses on practical implementation and long‑term sustainability of the Emerald Network. The programme promotes science‑based site management, monitoring, and stakeholder engagement, while fostering links between conservation, local communities, and sustainable economic activities.
By facilitating training, peer learning, and regional knowledge-sharing, EU4Environment helps countries move from designation to effective management, ensuring that Emerald sites protect biodiversity and also deliver social and economic benefits at the local level across the EaP region.
